Women’s Health conditions are extremely common in women of all ages during pregnancy, postnatally, menopause and in later years. Women of all life phases are experiencing unwanted problems that they believe are normal, or to be expected. These may include Pelvic Organ Prolapse, incontinence, bladder or bowel dysfunction and pain.
Many women are too embarrassed to seek help for these types of problems, or are unsure of where to go to for help. Many are not aware that Women’s Health Physiotherapy is a treatment option for them, however specialist pelvic health Physiotherapy treatment may be hugely beneficial for many women and may reduce or even resolve symptoms.
We offer a variety of treatment options for many Women’s Health conditions in comfortable and safe surroundings. You can guarantee that every aspect of the problem will be addressed, you will be listened to and a comprehensive treatment program will be delivered.

Our aim is to empower women, giving them back control over their health and improving their quality of life. We want to improve awareness of Women’s Health Physiotherapy, enabling women to understand that there are options available other than relying on incontinence pads or drastically changing their lifestyle (eg. stopping exercise) as a form of self-management.
What does a Women’s Health Assessment involve?
A full Women’s Health Assessment will take 60 minutes in our private and comfortable clinic environment. It will involve talking through your symptoms and medical history, where we will discuss your bladder, bowel and sexual health in a confidential and sensitive way, in order to determine where to go in terms of physical examination.
The Physical examination will involve a musculoskeletal screen where your posture and lumbopelvic movement will be assessed. It may be appropriate to perform an external and/or internal vaginal or rectal examination to assess for prolapse and to determine how your pelvic floor is functioning if you are experiencing any symptoms of incontinence. You may also be asked to complete a bladder or bowel diary in order to assess your bladder and bowel function in more depth.
Once the assessment has been completed we will be able to formulate a treatment program with you to address your symptoms.

The Mum Check
About The Mum Check®
The Mum Check® is a Physiotherapy and Pilates rehabilitation service, offered as part of our Women’s Health Physiotherapy provision at Enliven Health, which identifies and rehabilitates conditions commonly experienced by post-natal women, whether it’s 6 weeks or 10 years (or more) after childbirth.
The Mum Check® is appropriate for all women who have had children and offers two tiers of assessment to suit a variety of budgets. This is to help encourage more women to get the help they need to identify and treat their specific issues in the postnatal period. Even if you don’t have symptoms, it is always worth having a Mum Check® to help prevent potential problems developing in the future and to ensure your pelvic health is optimal before returning to activities such as impact exercise.
The Basic Mum Check®
This is a 30 minute Women’s Health Assessment, during which your postnatal problems will be discussed with you. You will then have either a pelvic floor or a tummy check, depending on which is your primary concern.
If there are any specific problems identified in the session, your specialist Physiotherapist will be able to advise you if you require further treatment and if so, what this is likely to involve. If necessary, an onward referral to your GP or into NHS Services can be arranged, to ensure you receive the treatment you need.
The Complete Mum Check®
This is a one hour Women’s Health Assessment whereby your postnatal problems will be discussed with you.
Following this, you will have an in depth examination of your tummy, pelvic floor and spine and pelvis and any other musculoskeletal issues you may be having.
Once any problems are identified, they will be explained to you and a home exercise program will be prescribed and a plan for your future recovery put forward.
What happens after my check?
We not only want to identify particular issues you may have, we also want to help you rehabilitate from them! Perhaps you want to return to exercise, to particular hobbies, sports, or just get back to a normal level or function?
We believe that in order to do this, a gradual and progressive rehabilitation program that is specific to YOU and YOUR NEEDS is vital.
We offer a bespoke and individualised approach to rehabilitating you back to where you want to be after having your children. We use a combination of Mat, Reformer Pilates and functional exercise to help restore your abdominal and pelvic floor function in a safe and progressive way, whilst regularly reassessing you to make sure you are improving.
Whatever your problems are, we understand that your postnatal recovery is a marathon and not a sprint, and we will guide you through every step of your journey to get you stronger and fitter.
